We are delighted to announce our first Festival of Europe event of 2022 on Thursday 27 Jan 2022 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM GMT.
A Zoom webinar with international composer Howard Goodall CBE, Opera singer Anna Patalong, and Julian Azkoul of The United Strings of Europe. You are invited to join in by sending your questions in advance.
Anna Patalong has toured internationally to great acclaim and is an award-winning ‘powerful and dark hued soprano’. We are looking forward to hearing her input in the webinar.
Howard Goodall CBE is a BAFTA and EMMY award-winning composer. His TV work includes the theme music to some of the greatest British comedies The Vicar of Dibley, Red Dwarf, and Mr Bean.
Julian Azkoul is the Artistic Director of our partners, the United Strings of Europe. He has led and performed as a violinist around the world with numerous orchestras and performed at many festivals. He also does outreach work with Amnesty International and refugee communities.
"We’ve actually been discussing the importance of sharing other cultures through the arts, as a way of bridging and maybe undermining some hostility that might exist, or counteracting some of it. I think that’s very important, as much for the musicians taking part as for the audiences, to introduce other cultures to them in a way that they might not have expected or had not experienced in that way before, and how that can be a powerful way of changing perceptions"
The music industry has been one of the UK’s major success stories in recent times, but Brexit threatens this success.
Brexit has had a major impact on the ability of UK musicians and their essential support staff to continue to perform in the EU and has similarly impeded EU performers wishing to bring their entertainment to the UK. Small and up-and-coming acts have been particularly hard hit, as they lack the resources to overcome the barriers that have been erected by Brexit.
What can be done? At this webinar we hear from these 3 highly respected musicians who have faced these difficulties themselves.
Tickets to this event are free, but we would appreciate your generous donations to give us the initial funding we need to make the Festival of Europe a reality. Book your place now using the button below
