Bournemouth’s European connections
July 23, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
£6.00This 90-minute walk starts by the sea and follows a route that reveals some of the town’s many links to Europe. From Isaac Gulliver, whose smuggling business brought wines, lace and silks from the continent and made him one of the wealthiest men in the West, and a fourteenth century pirate who still warrants an annual day of celebration, to Guglielmo Marconi, the Italian inventor and electrical engineer whose experiments in the town led to the creation of the first wireless system. We’ll also discover stories about an Austrian Empress, a pair of lions from the Vatican City, a German Count with a very long name and a Victorian hotel that imported water for its baths from Auvergne.
The walk is led by Bournemouth tour guide Hattie Miles
