The French in London Walk (London)
June 28, 2022
London is marked by a long history of the social, cultural, political and economic presence of the French and they have contributed in multiple ways to the life of the city. The capital has, for example, often provided a place of refuge, from the Huguenots in the 17th century, through the period of the French revolution, to various exile communities during the 19th century, and on to the Free French in the Second World War. London has also provided a place of opportunity. New generations of French citizens settled in post-war London, not least the hundreds of thousands of French (and Francophone) people who have made London their home in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. These walks trace the impact that the French have had historically, and continue to have, on London life manifested in diverse places and institutions from the religious to the political, from the artistic to the commercial, from the gastronomic to the educational.
The walk is lead by Caroline Tollemache, Blue Badge Guide.
Meet at 2:30 PM BST The Courtyard of Somerset House, Walking time 2 hours.
