Language Acts! What Are Our Values? (Glasgow)

May 12, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

A community workshop building on Language Acts and Worldmaking’s exploration of how and why the languages we use shape our world and our lives, its reflection on languages as a ‘hospitable space’ and the Festival and Summer of Europe’s celebration of ‘the shared values and cultures of all those who call Europe home’.

Facilitator Debra Kelly, Professor Emerita University of Westminster; Visiting Senior Research Fellow Centre for Language Acts and Worldmaking, King’s College London; Festival of Europe CIC; with the UNESCO RILA, University of Glasgow (https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/unesco/)

We’re honoured that the Festival of Europe’s values have been taken as the theme for this year’s UNESCO RILA Spring School in Glasgow. This workshop asks one of the questions both organisations share: ‘What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your own values and how they shape your identity or identities?’ and creates a space to discuss, exchange and act on ‘our values’.
