Scottish Canals Millennium Link: Celebrating European Links: Boat Trip (Glasgow)

May 14, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

£15

Celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the Millennium Link, the restoration of the Forth and Clyde Canal, an EU funding partnership triumph with a boat trip;  a leisurely sail by canal barge from Kirkintilloch to Maryhill Locks, organised by Glasgow Loves EU.

Saturday 14 May 2022, gives the opportunity to  celebrate the impact of European funding on Glasgow and its contribution to the regeneration of the city after decades of post-industrial decline. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Millenium Link Project which saw the Forth and Clyde Canal, this wonderful waterway through Scotland’s central belt, returned to its former glory and paved the way for urban renewal along its banks.

The project was funded by contributions from the Millennium Commission, Scottish Enterprise, the European Union, canal side local authorities and British Waterways, a massive collaborative effort, unlikely ever to have been undertaken were it not for access to the European Regional Development Fund.

The boat will leave the moorings (opposite The Stables in Kirkintillock) at 10 am travelling along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Maryhill Locks – journey time approximately 2 hours, arriving at Maryhill at around 12 noon. The cost of the trip is £15.00. (Please note these tickets must be booked in advance and spaces are limited.)
